This fusion will be enabled by technologies such as AR/VR, IoTs, 5G, and robotics and AI, all of which require a highly available distributed cloud infrastructure for delivering ultra-low latency and high bandwidth to users. The goal of our lab is to realize this vision in order to help Pakistan gain a competitive edge in the world. To this end, we will design and develop a massively distributed cloud infrastructure comprising tens of thousands of mini-datacenters, possibly located at cellular base stations and or POPs. We posit that such a cloud infrastructure, available in the form of a ‘pay-as-you-go’ model, will offer a unique opportunity for Pakistan to build the next-generation of products and startups. These sources present different challenges for grid integration and require a new type of grid commonly known as the smart grid. A key aspect of the smart grid is communicating, storing, querying and analyzing massive quantities of data that is generated from its key components. In fact, data from the smart grid is expected to be so enormous that smart grids are set to constitute the largest data network after the Internet. It is understood that Pakistan’s power sector is not ready to handle the massive data that is the key to any large-scale smart grid deployment. By properly utilizing smart grid data we could significantly reduce the costs associated with power systems. For example, this data could be utilized for developing long, medium and short-term demand forecasting. Accurate long and medium-term demand forecasting lead to least-cost energy planning while short term demand forecasting helps efficient system operation and significantly reduces T&D losses, saving millions of Rupees.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column css_animation=”top-to-bottom” width=”1/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1536319734550{margin-top: 35px !important;background-color: #e5e5e5 !important;border-radius: 10px !important;}”][vc_toggle title=”PI” open=”true”]

Dr. Faiz Chaudhry

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Co-PI” open=”true”]

Dr. Suleman Shahid

Dr. Imdadullah Khan

Dr. Hassan Mohy-ud-Din

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Affiliated Faculty (Director NCBC)” open=”true”]

Dr. Naveed Arshad

[/vc_toggle][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

Predictive Analytics Lab – SZABIST (ISB, KHI)

Data analysis forms the foundation of many modes of research ranging from scientific discoveries to governmental findings. It is a fundamental responsibility of the government to provide a safe and orderly environment that is implemented through various departments and agencies. Due to its unique geopolitical landscape, law and order has remained a pressing issue for Pakistan. Prevalent procedures for crime investigation and prevention are slow and outdated. We believe that the vast amount of structured and unstructured data available today is a gold mine. Unfortunately, sufficient human and technical resources do not exist in government departments and agencies to effectively utilize this data. The proposed Crime Investigation and Prevention Lab (CIPL) at ITU will provide a platform for research, development, and implementation of data-driven solutions for (1) Crime pattern discovery and optimal surveillance, (2) Evidence gathering and suspect identification, (3) Speech Forensics, and (4) Vulnerability analysis and crime prediction. To this end, the lab plans to assemble experts in Data Science, Speech & Audio Processing, Criminology, Sociology, and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) to build a modern law and order hub in the region.
