LUMS Namaz Times Chart

The times for the congregational prayers in the LUMS Majid have been standadized so that they will change only on the first and the 16th of every month (except of course for Magrib namaz, which follows the sunset time). This chart has been computed for the LUMS masjid using the following assumptions:

Latitude:N 31° 28' 9.35"
Longitude:E 74° 24' 31.90"
Fajr and Isha:When sun is 18° below the horizon
Asr:When shadow is twice it length plus the minimum
Maghrib:Three mins added for safety
Qibla:99° 30' 48" W (From N)

Pocket and Wall Charts

Here are four word documents that can be downloaded or printed for your use. Further below, the table itself is provided on this page.

The two page version is appropriate for display in a hallway or a public place.

The one page (landscape) version is fine for using as a display in your room.

The 6 on a page version is for plain (non-duplex) printers. Two adjacent charts make one complete pocket sized chart.

The 12 on a two-sided page version actually prints the previous (6 on a page) version twice (Once on the front and once on the back of the page). You must have a duplex printer (that can print on both the front and back of a sheet). After selecting File/Print, you must set the Printer Properties to "Print on both sides: Flip on long edge". This will print 12 pocket visiting card size charts on the front and back.

Alarms for Outlook and PDAs

You can also download this file and import it in your Outlook appointments.

  • From the menu select File — Import and Export.
  • Now select Import from another program or file and press Next >.
  • Then select Comma Separated values (Windows) and press Next >.
  • Now press the Browse button and select the file that you have downloaded (probably called "LUMS Masjid Outlook.csv") and press Next >.
  • For your destination folder select Calendar and press Next >.
  • Finally press Finish
  • Then be prepared for all the past namaz alarms to sound at the same time. This will simply take a bit of time, after which you can simply dismiss all previous appointments with a single button press.

This will creates an alarm for every namaz for every day in 2006. You can open the downloaded file with notepad, and replace all 2006 with 2007 or any other year, if you want to use it for a different year. I have not made any difference between Friday and Zuhr. This makes it easy to change the years, on the other hand it does not block enough time on your Friday appointments. The alarm will go off at 1:15AM which is reasonable, since there is more preparation for Friday prayers, but the time period blocked is from 1:30-1:45, although you will probably be finished with the Friday prayers by about 2:00 at the earliest.

Note that once you import it in your Outlook calendar, you can then sync with a palmtop or some mobile phones that are Outlook enabled, so that you will automatically have a namaz alarm for all your namaz times.

The Namaz Time Table

The Arabic khutba is a part of Juma. During the khutba it is not permissible to talk for any reason, to the point that you should not reply to a salaam or even ask another person not to talk.

In scheduling preferably leave 10 mins (wuzu and walking to the masjid) before the time of namaz, 10 mins for namaz and 10 more minutes after that (for dua, sunat namaz and returning).
